21st Annual Meeting, 12 March 2009

Sydney U3A Inc celebrated its 21st Annual General Meeting on 12 March 2009 at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts, Pitt Street, Sydney.

President Lesley Duffill presented her report outlining some of the varied activities of the past year.

Her thanks were extended to the many volunteers for their contributions in ensuring Sydney U3A maintains its energy and viability.  They included the course leaders and their helpers, the office workers, those installing the new computer system, the regional committee members and the management committee members.

The 2009 Honorary Memberships were awarded to Lionel Anet (Inner West region), Clarice Bradbury (Upper North) and Beverley Edmonds (Manly and Peninsula) for their outstanding efforts in the development of Sydney U3A.

Membership Subscription Increase

After some discussion the meeting voted overwhelmingly to increase the membership subscription from $35 to $45 from 1 July 2009.   In addition the $10 joining fee continues to apply to new members.

Another notice of motion to delegate future increases in fees to the management committee was withdrawn.

U3A is an international organization that follows the early concept of University; of people coming together to discuss and learn topics led by a Leader.

Course Leaders are drawn from member ranks who volunteer their time and knowledge. They are retired teachers, academics, business people or those with an expertise or enthusiasm in a particular subject.
