The Charter of Sydney U3A
The University of the Third Age movement aims to provide a learning environment organized by and for people in active retirement, who wish to keep their minds active and to meet like-minded seniors. Its overall aim is to satisfy the needs of seniors for the stimulus of mental activity. It will enable them to take up new interests and to extend current ones, and it will do so principally by drawing upon the extensive knowledge, energy and voluntary contributions of its own members. It is a mutual aid movement - a modern community of scholars which caters for people in their Third Age.
The Aims of the Sydney U3A as expressed in its constitution, are
- To provide intellectually stimulating programs of learning and the social contacts
arising therefrom for mature age people in partial or complete retirement - To deliver these programs through a voluntary, self-help community in which all
members enjoy equal status. - To improve the quality of life of members and to demonstrate that intellectual
capacity can be maintained well into the third age.
Sydney U3A is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act of NSW and is governed by its Constitution and Rules.
